Outsmart Car Thieves

Posted by Kristen Schell on 23rd Jun 2015

Colorado drivers had 11,459 cars stolen in 2014 and that is an 55% increase from 2005, this according to the Rocky Mountain Insurance Association. They also report that in 2013 the number one car stolen in Colorado was the 1996 Honda Accord. That’s not the flash car you picture when you imagine a car thief, is it? The fact is, it can happen to anyone and everyone can take steps to avoid being the victim of the crime of car theft. Here are something you can do to deter thieves.

  • Install a security system. We recommend the Viper 5706V Remote Start and Keyless Entry with Alarm.
  • Park it in a garage, a private garage. Dedicate a day to cleaning out your garage and make room for it.
  • Have the VIN number etched on the glass and other parts of the car. You car will be less likely to end up in a chop shop of the parts are marked.
  • If you must park outside, park in a well-lit area. Thieves will are more likely to be seen and reported if they are operating in the light.
  • Lock your doors. This may seem obvious but many people are in the habit of leaving their cars unlocked when the car is parked outside their door, at home.
  • Stash valuables. Don’t leave valuables like laptops or smartphones in sight. Dont’ give the the thief any added incentive to stealing your car.

Keep your car safe and stop into Drive In Autosound and allow us to help you pick out the car security system that is right for you.
